Personal injury compensation – there's a wrong way and right way to make a claim!
7 Jan 2010
When a Nottinghamshire man was accused by two men of running over the foot of one of them, the aggrieved parties decided to make a claim for the alleged personal injury in a most inappropriate way.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that the driver, Joshua Buckley, was threatened by Aaron Head and Christopher Wright, who took all the money in his wallet, snatched his car keys, and demanded £50 more in further compensation for their return.
The court heard that Buckley was driving in Eastwood, a small town north of Nottingham, when he stopped to talk to Head and Wright, two men that he knew. Later as Buckley pulled away in his vehicle he allegedly drove over one of his two acquaintance's feet.
During the subsequent altercation, Buckley was also punched in the face.
After Buckley took Head and Wright to court, the two were both given 50 week jail sentences, suspended for two years after they pleaded guilty to robbery. And Wright was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation to Buckley.
Clearly if you feel you are a victim of a road accident, you should not take matters into your own hands.
Whatever the claim, it is important that the injured person is represented by an independent specialist personal injury lawyer.
Personal injury claims can range from trips and slips and car accident whiplash cases to catastrophic brain and spinal injuries involving complex litigation.
