Warehouse worker loses leg in accident. Awarded £250,000 damages

Mr M found himself getting his leg trapped in a stepladder as he fell from it

A man who broke his leg at work so badly it was amputated gains some solace with the help of Osbornes' Stuart Kightley

In another amputee case Stuart Kightley acted for Mr M, an employee of a wholesaler whose job involved taking deliveries at their warehouse and unloading boxes of stock from container lorries.

No safe method of unloading was devised and Mr M found himself getting his leg trapped in a stepladder as he fell from it.

Mr M’s serious leg fracture was fixed with an external frame but failed to heal and after 12 months the decision was taken to amputate.

His employers did not have valid insurance cover and they failed to respond to our correspondence and so court proceedings were brought direct against the company.

Liability was denied but the case was settled at a solicitors’ round table meeting in 2008 for £250,000, by which time the Claimant was well on the way to getting his life back on track.
